EDR Reverse Electrodialysis

EDR Reverse Electrodialysis

The process of electrodialysis allows for removal of charged particles (ions) from water, through the use of an electric field. Thanks to the use of ion exchange capable membranes, ions are sparated. Effectively, the water is divided into two streams, a desalinated one and a highly salinated one. To avoid processes connected to formation of chemical residue, the electric field switches its polarization every so often (thus Reversible Elecrodialysis).

Description

The greatest advantages of this method of desalination are:

  • Functionality under low water pressure (under 4 bar),
  • No expensive pre-treatment (accurate filtration, water softening),
  • Resistance to chlorine,
  • Long device lifetime,
  • Compact build.

The technology is most useful in cases where cleanliness of the desalinated water is not of much importance. It’s the perfect solution for reversing water flow in technological processes, and also for recovering mineral substances.
